Genealogy Heritage

It seems fitting that this blog post should come on the 2nd anniversary of genealogy heritage coming into existence. It’s been an incredible ride. Initially I hadn’t given much thought to blogging about my family tree thinking it might not amount to much. For a while the idea lingered in my head until one day I decided to just go for it because life is too short to be dithering.

Genealogy is a journey; it’s a process that changes your outlook on many different aspects of your life. It is a natural curiosity to want to know who we are and where we come from but this journey is not without its skeletons. Personally I have no objection to letting the skeletons out of the cupboard as it makes a tree more fascinating but not everyone would be comfortable with this. One of the first things I say to any potential client is that I will happily research your family tree as long as you are prepared for the fact that I might find something you may not want to hear. If there was something they didn’t want me to research then now was a good time to say; it’s hard to put a skeleton back in the cupboard once I’ve let it out. I’m inclined to state the same thing when it comes to DNA testing; I’ve no problem with people wanting to take one as long as they are prepared for what might be discovered as a result.

I remember saying in my first ever blog post that I hoped people would enjoy reading my posts and that they would gain some benefit from reading it. I hope you have enjoyed reading it and that it has been of some benefit to you whether it is big or small. If you have an idea take the plunge; it could take off or it might not work out the way you imagined. At least you know you tried. We shouldn’t be afraid to dream. We shouldn’t be afraid to reach for the moon and the stars. We should never have any doubt in our own abilities or talents whatever they may be.

There is no guarantee as to what the future holds and to be honest I’d rather not know. What I do know is that I’m just going to keep blogging and doing the thing I love the most. I also know that we have the power to decide the future. We have the power to decide what kind of world we want to live in. The same can be said with regards to genealogy and family history. We can decide how we want to be remembered. We can decide what we want our ancestors’ legacy to be and how we feel they should be remembered.

Never let it be said that to dream is a waste of one’s time, for dreams are our realities in waiting. In dreams we plant the seeds of our future – Author Unknown
